Nail conditions can affect the appearance, growth, and pain sensations in the nails of your fingers and toes. Living with nail conditions can be challenging, and only a few can be treated at home.

Nail conditions can make it difficult to use your hands or walk comfortably and may influence your confidence in allowing others to see your hands or feet. But you shouldn't have to live with this invasive and everyday problem.

The good news is that treatments are available for many existing nail conditions. The expert dermatology specialists of Radiant Dermatology & Aesthetics can help you diagnose your nails and build a treatment plan to manage or solve your condition for healthier, more beautiful nails.

WHAT IS IT?

Nail Conditions

There are many different types of nail conditions that can affect both the fingernails and toenails. Some common nail conditions include nail fungus, yellowing of the nails, brittleness, and ridges.

While most nail conditions are harmless, some can be indicative of a more serious underlying health condition. Nail conditions can often be treated at home, but more severe cases may require medical treatment.

If you are concerned about a nail condition that you have, it is always best to consult with a medical professional to get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.

HOW IT WORKS?

Nail Conditions Treatment

There are many different types of nail conditions, each with its own set of symptoms and treatment options. While some nail diseases are minor and do not require treatment, others can be more serious and even cause permanent damage to the nails.

Our team of professionals will carefully examine your nails to diagnose and treat any nail disease you may have.

Common Causes for Nail Conditions

Nail conditions can be the result of several different factors. The appearance of your nail can help determine what the cause might be. Factors that might be contributing to or the source of your nail condition include:

  • Fungal infection
  • Bacterial infection
  • Nutrient deficiency (malnutrition)
  • Injury to the hand or foot
  • Tight or damp socks
  • Psoriasis (a skin-related auto-immune disorder)
  • Ingrown nail
  • Infected cuticle
  • Cuticle gland issues
  • Improper moisture

Conditions Treated

Onycholysis

Onycholysis occurs when the nail separates from the nail bed over time. The condition may be a reaction to chemicals, water, psoriasis, or allergies, among other possible causes. Treatments include antifungals, psoriasis treatment, or cause-specific remedies.

Onychomycosis

Onychomycosis is a type of fungal infection that is more likely to be found in toenails than fingernails. Treatments include antifungal medication and special nail care to stop the infection and prevent it from recurring.

Paronychia

Paronychia is an infection of the nail bed. It occurs when a damaged nail bed allows bacteria to enter. The result is redness, painful swelling, and sometimes yellow puss at the site of infection. Treatment includes antibiotics, warm compresses, corticosteroids, and surgical incisions if necessary.

Nail Psoriasis

Nail psoriasis is an autoimmune reaction that causes nails to crumble or dent. It weakens the nail so it can become brittle and fragile. Treatment includes treatment of systemic psoriasis along with corticosteroids and laser treatment.

Onychogryphosis

Onychogryphosis is a thick overgrowth of the nail that becomes thick and overlarge. It is most likely to occur on the big toe. Treatment includes special cutting or filing to bring the nail back down to a regular size and safely maintain it if the condition continues.

Nail Fungal Infection

Nail fungal infections can be common, especially for toenails. They cause nails to become thick, discolored, and/or breakable. Treatment includes long-term antifungal medication and can take time to cure the infection fully.

Ingrown Nail

An ingrown nail occurs when the nail itself grows into the nailbed. Causes include shoes and socks, but they can also be genetic. Ingrown nails are surgically repaired, and they can then be prevented or managed with foot soaks and careful shoe and socks choice.

Pincer Nail

A pincer nail is when the nail grows unevenly and damages the nail bed. It can be treated similarly to an ingrown nail focusing on the uneven side.
